Overview
Imiquimod Cream is a medical cream used to treat common skin diseases such as genital warts, rough and scaly regions caused by sun exposure, and some types of cancer. The immune system is activated to combat the virus that creates these warts.
What Is Imiquimod Cream?
Imiquimod Cream is a topical medicine used to treat a variety of skin problems by boosting the immune system. It is often used to treat actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinoma, and genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus.
The key ingredient, imiquimod, works by activating the immune system, causing it to release substances such as interferons, which aid in the battle against aberrant skin cells and viral infections.
How Does Imiquimod Cream Work?
Imiquimod, the active component of Imiquimod, functions by triggering the immune system of the body. It attacks abnormal cells, such as malignant or precancerous skin cells, and viral infections, like genital warts, by inducing immune cells to release cytokines, such as interferon-alpha.
Imiquimod promotes healing by encouraging the body to naturally combat various skin disorders, in contrast to alternative treatments that kill cells directly.
How To Use Imiquimod Cream?
You should use Imiquimod exactly as directed by your physician. Typically, depending on the ailment being treated, it is used two to five times a week. Make sure the affected region is dry before applying, then wash it with a mild soap and water.
Spoon on a small amount of the cream, then rub it in gently until it is absorbed. After applying, make sure to properly wash your hands. After applying the cream for six to ten hours—typically overnight—wash the affected area with soap and water.
